Not every green space starts with dirt. Some of the best turf projects we do go right over hard surfaces, a bare concrete patio, a wood deck, a condo balcony, or a flat rooftop that was just grey and unused.
Why people do it
A concrete patio is practical but it's not exactly inviting. Lay turf over it and suddenly it's soft underfoot, kid and pet friendly, and a place people actually want to sit. Same with a rooftop or a balcony in a townhouse or condo where a real lawn was never an option.
How we install over a hard surface
The approach is different from a ground install. There's no base to dig, so the focus shifts to drainage and a clean fit. We assess how the existing surface drains, add the right underlay where it's needed, then cut the turf precisely to the space with tidy edges.
- Assess the existing surface and how water moves off it
- Add a suitable drainage underlay where required
- Cut soft, realistic turf to fit the space exactly
- Finish with clean, secured edges and transitions
Great for sloped and tricky lots
We do a lot of this kind of work in places like White Rock, where steep, sloped lots and hillside patios make a traditional lawn impractical. Turf over a hard surface turns those awkward spaces into something usable and good-looking.
